Download Recension™ 1.0.0
Every comparison runs on your machine. Your documents are never uploaded, and the app works with the network completely down. Free for any use, including at work.
From 1.0.0 the app does ask one thing of the network: once a day it checks whether a newer version exists, and offers to install it. That is the only request it makes on its own — it sends no information about you or your documents, and it can be turned off by an administrator.
You do not need it to use Recension: the web version runs the same engine in your browser.
Before you download: these builds are unsigned
There is no Apple Developer ID and no Windows code-signing certificate, because both cost money and this project runs at zero cost. That is a deliberate decision, and you will meet it immediately:
- macOS — Gatekeeper refuses to open it. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about Recension, click Open Anyway, then authenticate. Since Sequoia the Control-click bypass no longer works.
- Windows — SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” with Don’t run as the default. Click More info → Run anyway. If Smart App Control is on, it blocks the installer outright and there is no override.
- Linux — unaffected. Nothing about `.deb`, `.rpm` or AppImage requires signing.
Every build publishes a SHA-256 checksum, so you can verify the download is exactly what was built.

Verify your download
SHA256SUMS is attached to every release. Download it alongside the installer and check:
# macOS / Linux shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS # Windows (PowerShell) Get-FileHash .\Recension_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
If the hash does not match, do not run the file — and please say so.
Known limitations in 1.0.0
- SAML SSO and SCIM return 503 until an identity provider is configured. These are for operators running their own instance; nothing in the app requires them.
- Unsigned binaries, as above.
